Slime Oil Trademarket

Due to rather quick drops and fast selling, farming for slime oil has become increasingly popular in my LinkShell. Especially in Korroloka Tunnel. Here the slime's are a low level (23-28), many spawn points and a very decent drop rate (to which I recomend going as thf or subbing thf) Slime oil stacks sell quickly and are always in high demand. With people under pricing the oil for less for quicker selling, the price of slime oil can also change drastically. Currently I've seen it bounce from 20k to 12k, lately its been at a steady 15k which is very nice still. In order to farm these here slimes I'd suggest a job of 45+. While these slimes in Korroloka are a relatively low level, they have high damage resists from all weapon types:

Piercing: -25%
Slashing: -25%
Blunt: -50%

So even with my level 57 DRG I have to rest every so often. A healing fellowship is also recommended, as it will lower downtime you may have at lower levels. A RDM/THF would probably be the most effective at farming since the slimes are weak to magic and you could keep up a constant refresh and occasional convert to negate any downtime. At times it can be pretty busy here with people farming slimes, so competition can be fierce at times. Of course theres some more things to keep an eye out for other than the slimes.

Korroloka tunnel is also a home for the Notorious Monster called Morion Worm. Only ranges from level 30-32, so he shouldn't pose a problem to anyone high enough to be farming the slimes. His drops are several kinds of ore, but the most important drop is his Morion Tathlum. Which sells for around 50k in the Jeuno AH. Still Morion's drop rate isn't that good, myself being 2/11 on him but still the chance of a tathlum or maybe a darksteel ore is worthwhile. In order to spawn him, you must trade an Iron ore to a ??? spot found on the ground where other Land Worms spawn. You automatically get claim once you spawn him, so make sure to make a trade macro to do it quicker (/item "Iron ore") The Land Worms supposedly drop iron ore, and so does Morion occasionally but don't bank on those two to get your iron ore, purchase some from the bastok AH, usually around 600gil.

Now Korroloka Tunnel is a rather confusing place, lots of side tunnels and paths on the second floor. A map is very important for those who are new here if you don't know the layout yet. The map can be bought in Rabao for 3,000 gil. But if have access to a PC while playing FFXI, you can also use wiki.ffxiclopedia.org for their maps, which show spawn points for morion and other points of interest. Of course it doesn't show any Jelly 's(the name for the type of slimes here) So in order to aid you in your slime farming, I have created this .swf interactive map to help you in locating them. Which can be found here: http://img214.imageshack.us/my.php?image=korrolokamapca6.swf

Of course I did also implement buttons on all the NMs and whatnot that linked to ffxi wiki for info, but they don't seem to work after I uploaded it to imageshack. But oh well, click on the letters to navigate through the different maps.

How Petrifying!

For this post's topic, I'll center on a certain BCNM (Burning Circle Notorious Monster) This is a rather popular one for my LS on the Bahamut server, as it is very easy and drops can be pretty darn decent. This is a lv30 cap BCNM so that means you'll need a sky orb for this fight. It is also located in Ghelsba Outpost, in the same spot where you fight for your NPC and DRG flag quest. The enemies in this fight are 2 NM lizards, Kilioa and Kalamainu. They do all of lizard's normal weapon skills. A popular set up for this fight is war/ninx2 and rdm/?, the rdm's sub being a personal preference. A lot of people suggest /blm for Elemental seal, but with capped enfeebling at lv30 your spells will stick 95% of the time. I was 15/15 on this run using the setup mentioned above with 0 deaths. (I subbed blu >:) Our drop rate was fairly decent, scoring leaping boots a lot, probably at least 10 pairs in those 15 runs. The gun belt was another hot ticket item when corsair first came out, selling for around 1.5mil but price has dropped to around 200k, still not too bad. All of the other drops include various lv30 latent effect belts and a few spells. Now to run through suggested items to bring:

Hi-Pots: A precaution, as the rdm will be kiting one of the lizards he may not be able to assist in healing right away. RDM should also bring 1-2, can never hurt.

Food: War/nin's bring what you prefer, either meat or sushi. Remember the faster you take the first one down, the better. RDM should bring some type of pie for mp boost.

Drink: Some sort of HP regen drink for war/nin is always nice but not required. RDM should bring yagudo drinks, at least one per run.

Echo Drops: Lizards have a ws called Brain Crush which induces silence, echo drops are a must.

Blind Potions: I read that using these will prevent the lizards petrify ws, not entirely sure if it does but it also hampers the war/nin's performance, so test if willing. Results may vary.

Reraise: You never know.

Lets Begin! Upon trading the orb, make sure to select "Petrifying Pair" and enter the match! You and your party have 15 minutes to beat this, which should be plenty of time. Upon entering, eat food, utsusemi, blink, aquaveil, protect and etc buffs. Don't drink MP drink yet, save it for later and rest til almost full. Now facing to where the lizards are, a brown one will be standing to the far left, the white one to the far right. The War/nin's just act in tandem, voking off of each other when their respected shadows fall. Also take note, when/if the lizard petrifies one of the wars, the RDM should try to bind it so the other war can provoke it and move away until petrifiy falls. While the two war's whittle away the one lizard, the rdm should be kiting the other one with gravity and bind if it wears off before recast. The rdm should keep blink up at all times or utsusemi if he/she is subbing ninja, as if he dies then the wars die. The RDM should also have time to toss in a few enfeeble's on the lizard the war/nin's are fighting to help out. When the first lizard falls, have the rdm to continue kiting the other one to give time for your companions to recast and prepare to engage second one. The 2nd one should go down quickly, the rdm having decent mp after using drink and resting when need be.

I have also done this with a war/nin and blu/nin, it also worked fairly well.

Drops can be dissapointing at times, but overall our parties have had pretty good drops, one member getting 2 pairs of leaping lizzy boots on his 2 runs. 30 seals isn't too bad either, just remember to always save them and never throw them away.

Giddeus, a Land of Opportunity

Giddeus, when people think of this place, do they think of a multitude of Gil-Gathering Goodies? Or just a bunch of Yagudos and memories of horrid key hunting? While over-looked by many, Giddeus is actually a nice spot for farming! Another good thing that the monsters are of low level and really don't pose a threat to the novice adventurer!

The main goal is Harvesting. Not one of the biggest used of the various gathering methods, harvesting can be quite profitable! The sicles are also cheap and hardly break! I farmed around 160k gil only going through about a stack of them! Sicles can be bought for around 300 gil apiece at Ensata's Catalyst Shop, located in Windurst Waters.

Here is a very useful map which shows the spawn points for Harvesting! Its a very ideal place for those of the lower level, as no harvest points spawn in the higher tier yagudo area. Now for what items you can get through harvesting.

1. Red Moko Grass - This is the most important item that can be farmed. The Harvest rate according to wiki is rated as 'Rare' but after gathering a few stacks of it, I think its more of 'uncommon'. These babies sell for about 28-30k a stack in windurst and jeuno! Selling can take sometime in Jeuno so I'd suggest trying Windurst first.

2. Fresh Mugwort - Now this is rated as 'Very Rare' and for a good reason, you won't see too many of these drop. But when they do, KEEP THEM! Save up a stack of these babies and they go for around 90k a stack, definetly very nice!

3. Saruta Cotton - A fairly common drop, also a decent selling price of around 10k per stack. Definetly a keeper.

4. Flax flower - These are another fairly common harvest, only going for around 4k a stack though.

Anything else really isn't worth keeping, but some stacks of various things make be worth 3-4k, so its based on your own personal preference and inventory space.

Other things to watch out for:

Digger Wasps- These guys drop beehive chips which sell for around 9-10k a stack and they have a pretty good droprate!
Make sure to kill them whenever you see one as it adds up quite nicely. Their honey isn't too bad either, selling for around 5k a stack.

Yagudo NMs - Not something I'd personally put my energy in, but always nice to keep an eye out for them. They drop various items worth various amounts of gil, so if you see one make sure to kill it!

Thats about it for the land of Giddeus! This is an ideal spot for the low level monsters and the relaxed farming that goes on here. Its definetly worth looking into! Well, until next time!

The Farmer's Toolset

An important part of being a farmer is having the necessary and/or helpful tools to aid you in your gil-gathering-goodness. Here I have listed some helpful things to consider getting!

Adventuring Fellow: Possibly one of the most helpful things you can have is your Adventuring Fellow! Getting this baby isn't too difficult, but does require a rank of at least 4. Your NPC is helpful in the fact you can set him/her to perform different duties from various Rendezvous Points! The most helpful being 'Healer'. While your npc will still aid in battle, she'll also heal you when necessary and cast various enfeebling/enhancing spells! This is extremely help when farming monsters that still cause enough damage over time to validate resting. To find out more about this valuable fellowship, click here http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/Adventuring_Fellow_Guide

Gobbiebag: While they do get pricy, its a very good idea to invest in them. Having an increased storage compacity allows you to carry more while farming and making less trips back to a town to drop off items or having to throw away things! http://wiki.ffxiclopedia.org/The_Gobbiebag_Part_I

Treasure Hunter: A very nice thing to have when farming for items off various monsters. Thieves get this ability at 15, which means you need to be at least level 30 to access it for your sub.

Internet Resources: Always helpful, being able to look up information on the fly and get up todate Auction House prices! Of course, a lot of times you may not be able to access both FFXI and browse the internet, so I'd suggest printing off material if you have to!

Helpful Links
www.ffxiah.com - This provides almost uptodate Auction House prices for Jeuno on any server! Very useful for when your out in the field and need to know what is worth keeping.

wiki.ffxiclopedia.org - An invaluable resource for information on almost anything!

Well thats it for now! Now on the next post, our first area of interest, Giddeus!

Welcome!

Hello Vana'diel Adventurer's and welcome to my Blog! Instead of capturing your imagination with tales of my great adventures, I'm here to aid those in pursuit of a common goal-gil. Gil is as important to an Adventurer as Crystals are to crafters! The problem many adventurers have is acquiring gil to further fund their experience parties and outings. Well luckily there's plenty of ways to gather gil that doesn't require a high level or anything too time consuming! So in my series of blog posts, I'll be sharing information on lots of farming areas, Notorious monsters and Burning Circle Notorious Monster strategies! Stay tuned and hopefully you'll leave with an idea to make some gil!
